What is DTF textile printing and how does it work?

DTF (Direct To Film) printing allows you to transfer designs onto fabrics using heat and a special film. It is a versatile and cost-effective alternative to DTG, screen printing, and sublimation, and is compatible with various types of fabric.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. How do I prepare the design for DTF printing?

The design is created in Photoshop, Illustrator, or CorelDRAW, in CMYK mode and with a transparent background if necessary. It is important to maintain high resolution and prepare the colors correctly for accurate printing.

2. What is the design printed on before being transferred?

It is printed on a special PET film (DTF film) using water-based textile inks. First, the color layer (CMYK) is printed, followed by a white layer that acts as a base to ensure opacity and design accuracy.

3. What is the adhesive powder used for in this process?

After printing, a thermofusible adhesive powder (hot melt) is applied. This powder adheres to the still-wet ink and will be responsible for bonding the design to the garment during pressing.

4. How is the film's adhesive activated?

The film with the powder is cured with heat, either in an oven or with a heat press without direct contact. This melts the adhesive, preparing it for transfer to the fabric.

5. How is the design transferred to the garment?

The film is placed on the fabric (cotton, polyester, etc.) and pressed at 150–160 °C for 10–15 seconds. The film is removed hot or cold, depending on the type. The result is a firm, sharp design with good elasticity.
